CanAm - How it Works

Each year we register a team in the bracket we have the most players for. In the future we may need to do something else depending on participation.

"Old Boy" matches have free substitution so you play as long as you can or until someone subs for you. We have good relationships with other teams so we frequently play with Rochester, Syracuse Old Boys, or whomever needs players.

Most players go for just the weekend. Many bring their families and stay for the week to take advantage of all the touristy things to do. There are a lot of family activities to take advantage of.

Accommodations range from hotel/motels, generally in Lake Placid, to camping at the KOA at Whiteface, renting condos or other rental properties. (See Links page for links to accommodations).

Make your reservations early - the best places go quickly and availability is limited.

The CanAm tournament is the first weekend in AUGUST. Check the CanAm website for details. "Old Boy" matches will be played on Friday with championship matches on Sunday. That leaves Saturday open for recovery or other activities.

The CanAm Tournament schedule is supposed to be published on the CanAm web site by late July. Last year it kept changing up to the week prior to the tournament. Keep your eye on the CanAm web site.

The night before the first match players meet in Lake Placid on the veranda of the High Peaks Resort (http://www.highpeaksresort.com/dining/index.cfm) to discuss strategy over a few beers. I don't think we ever really figure anything out - but it's the thought that counts!

The day of, we meet at the field stretch out a little, tell stories of how great we once were and pray we don't sustain any life altering injuries.

After the game on Friday we meet at Mr. Mike's Pizza in Lake Placid for a few beers and pizza. On Saturday we recover and prepare for the matches on Sunday morning.

One last thing - Sometime before you head for home make sure to give Jerry Arbes your registration money for the next year.

The database is reset and everyone becomes a BABY until they commit for the next year.

Hope to see you on Thursday.
